Established in 1946, the Carter Group is a privately-held Christchurch-based company with a diverse investment portfolio. The Group has a significant property portfolio across New Zealand and Australia, and a rich history of building excellence in Canterbury. Predominantly self-funding, the Group has a solid balance sheet and a track record of strong strategic relationships. The Group has extensive capabilities ranging from property management, design management and financial modelling, through to contract and tenancy management. The Group has three main divisions: property investment, hotels and private equity investment. Carter Group has a long, proven history and reputation of delivering projects on time and on budget.
The Crossing
The Crossing is a $140 million retail and hospitality precinct featuring laneways and courtyards in central Christchurch. It was the largest private project underway in central Christchurch at the time. Opened in September 2017 as a flagship development for the Carter Group, it has become the veritable heart of Christchurch, setting the benchmark for other retail and hospitality projects. The Crossing covers a hectare of the Cashel Mall, Colombo Street, Lichfield Street and High Street block. This complex as completed, comprises 13,000m2 of retail, 4,500m2 of offices and a 634 car-parking facility.
Hotels
Carter Group owns the Crowne Plaza Queenstown. This iconic hotel, set the benchmark for 5-star accommodation in Queenstown when it was first developed in the 1970’s. Nestled in a premier location, the hotel evokes lasting memories for guests with spectacular views of The Remarkables and the Earnslaw. All with the serene splendour of Lake Wakatipu sitting in the background. Also in development is the Cathedral Square Hotel, in central Christchurch. Located in the heartbeat of Christchurch, Cathedral Square, the hotel commands unparalleled views of the iconic Christchurch Cathedral. The hotel planned, intends to bring a new level of sophistication, refinement and luxury, not experienced in Christchurch before.
Residential
Carter Group has proven expertise in residential subdivisions. The prominence and success of Regents Park and Hyde Park are clear demonstrations of the innovation and high quality approach of the company. This continues with the current development underway at Kennedys Green. Its desirable location, only steps from the recreational Quarry Park and sought- after Halswell School, Kennedys Green is surrounded by natural reserves, green spaces and vast views of the Port Hills. Carter Group is actively involved in bringing further residential development to the fast growing regions of Selwyn and Waimakariri. With extensive subdivisions in the planning stages at Rolleston & Lincoln and Ohoka, respectively.
Commercial Offices
Carter Group is in the final planning stages of 2 iconic office buildings in central Christchurch. The Regent, located on the edge of Cathedral Square, this office building will provide tenants with a commanding presence in the centre of Christchurch. 33 Cathedral Square will emerge as an ever-present part of life and become the centre of activity along this well-known stretch of Worcester Boulevard. In the final development stages, the office building at 170 Cashel Street will be the “Pinnacle” of the Retail Precinct, providing a dramatic finish to Cashel Street and along with the new Christchurch Stadium, further revitalising the CBD’s east frame. This four-level building will sit proudly on the former Holiday Inn site, at the corner of Cashel and High Streets.
